Text editors are simple but essential programs for....*gasp* creating and editing text files. These txt files could be a shopping list, an email or a C or Perl program, or pretty much anything. There are a few different ones installed on Spoon each with it's own charms.
- Nano - This is a fairly basic program that would be suited to emails and other plain text formats.
- Emacs - This is a much more advanced program that can provide clever syntax highlighting and formatting as well as other functions. This is more suited to writing code (or HTML). Many languages are supported.
- Vim - Vim is in some ways very similar to Emacs in what it can do, but in practice is very different. There is a long running argument as to which is better, but it is mostly down to personal preference. It is possible that Vim is more popular amongst Netsoc members.
