The following describes what user software may be installed globally on Spoon.
Generally any CLI program, library or documentation in the "Debian":http://www.debian.org Stable Main archive will be installed upon request.
However anything that
- has security concerns
- requires suid/sgid
- is computationally intensive
- is a server
- is an X app
for example will have to be considered carefully. This is not an exhaustive list.
For anything in /usr/local/spoon/bin (useful self contained scripts) we must have the source. For scripts its easy as its already in CVS. For binaries a copy of the source and any diffs should be somewhere users can get to and somewhere that is backed up.
