Description

Spoon was a Dell Poweredge 1800, purchased in 2005. It lived in the Department of Mathematics, in the spot where Matrix once stood. From 2005 to 2011, it was our primary login server. It ran Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 (Squeeze). It died due to hard drive failure during the summer of 2018.

  • Dell PowerEdge 1800
  • Dual 2.8GHz 2MB L2 cache 64bit Xeon processors with HyperThreading support
  • 4GB RAM
  • 2x500GB and 4x250GB on the onboard SATA controllers and a PERC 4 channel SATA controller respectively
  • Onboard 1GBit network card and additional 100Mbit network card
  • Dual redundant hot-swappable power supplies.

Name

The name is random. There was no intended Matrix reference. The link was only spotted after it was named. bbrazil maintains that if it was spotted earlier it wouldn't be called Spoon.
